چکیده

Neoplastic transformation (development of squamous cell carcinoma / verrucous carcinoma) in lichen planus has been described, especially in the oral form of the disease where an estimated 0.3-3% of patients may develop squamous cell carcinoma. Malignancy though uncommon with cutaneous lichen planus has been described in chronic hypertrophic lesions of lichen planus on the legs, including a case of metastatic squamous cell carcinoma developing in a 34-yearold male in chronic hypertrophic lesions of lichen planus on the legs of more than 10 years duration. six patients who completed the treatment schedule without any relapse during the follow-up. The compliance was also good, with only one patient being lost to follow-up, probably as a result of reduced toxicity and earlier response. This preliminary study shows that the combination of SSG and rifampicin for 120 days is effective and reasonably safe in the treatment of PKDL.

Squamous cell carcinoma arising from chronic hypertrophic Lichen Planus: A case report

Association of lichen planus and cutaneous malignancies is rare. Reports of neoplastic changes are mostly related to buccal chronic erosive lichen planus. We report herein a 29-year-old man who developed squamous cell carcinoma on previous lesions of chronic hypertrophic lichen planus of lower legs. Careful follow up of patients with chronic lichen planus and biopsy sampling of uncommon lesions...

Hypertrophic lichen planus mimicking squamous cell carcinoma: The importance of clinicopathologic correlation

HLP: hypertrophic lichen planus LP: lichen planus PEH: pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia SCC: squamous cell carcinoma INTRODUCTION Hypertrophic lichen planus (HLP) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) share many clinical and histopathologic characteristics, making them difficult to distinguish. HLP may undergo malignant transformation, leading to the development of SCC within HLP. We present a cas...

Twice malignant transformation of hypertrophic lichen planus.

Lichen planus is a chronic mucocutaneous T-cell-mediated disease, the cause of which remains unknown. The first case of lichen planus that transformed into squamous cell carcinoma was reported in 1903. The presented study concerns the case of a 62-year-old woman in whom twice malignant transformation of hypertrophic lichen planus in the dorsal part of the left foot developed. Several studies ha...

Pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia arising from hypertrophic lichen planus mimicking squamous cell carcinoma: limited value of immunohistochemistry.

Hypertrophic lichen planus shows prominent hyperplasia and overlying orthokeratosis of the epidermis. To date, 50 cases of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) have been reported as neoplastic transformation of hypertrophic lichen planus. We report a case of pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia (PEH) simultaneously found in hypertrophic lichen planus lesions simulating SCC, with special reference to the ...
